Dantz Redefines Backup With Retrospect 6.0

Retrospect Provides Unique Capabilities Specifically Designed
                    For Small and Medium-Size Enterprises

ORINDA, Calif., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Dantz Development Corporation, a
premier provider of backup and restore software, announced today the release
of Dantz(R) Retrospect(R) 6.0 for Microsoft Windows. This major upgrade to
the award-winning Retrospect product line provides small and medium-size
enterprises with features that, until now, have only been available to large
enterprises using backup software geared towards substantial IT staffs.
Retrospect combines unsurpassed ease of use and speed of operations with
built-in intelligence that automates the backup of file servers, desktops,
notebooks, and line-of-business applications.
"For the roughly 7.1 million small and mid-sized businesses with PCs,
backup continues to be a major chore," said Raymond L. Boggs, Small
Business/Home Office VP at market research firm IDC. "Many view it like going
to the dentist -- important in theory, but often postponed until there's a
problem." Boggs noted that having backup take place automatically insures
that it gets done, especially in smaller firms.
"Small and medium-size enterprises recognize the importance of protecting
their data, but want to spend their resources running their business, not
their backups," said Tony Barbagallo, vice president of marketing at Dantz.
"Advanced functionality which automates the backup process, combined with ease
of use makes Retrospect the best choice for these organizations."

    Easiest and Fastest
Retrospect eliminates the need to implement intricate backup strategies
involving multiple backup tapes, sequences of full, incremental, or
differential backups, and constant revisions to backup scripts which
traditional backup products require to achieve reliable data protection.
Retrospect takes care of the details so the administrator's job is much
easier.
Backups are much faster because Retrospect delivers 100% accurate restores
without performing constant full backups. When Retrospect restores data it
does so without returning unwanted deleted, renamed, or moved files to the
restored hard drive. Traditional backup software avoids this problem only by
requiring repeated full backups that waste time and media space.

    Protect Servers, Desktops, and Notebooks
Not just best in class backup for servers, Retrospect delivers complete
protection of data on desktops and notebook computers, which typically contain
a significant amount of an organization's business-critical data. Retrospect
automates the backup process to ensure that all computers get backed up, even
if the time required to complete the backups exceeds the backup window,
without requiring administrator intervention. Notebooks are backed up
automatically whenever they connect to the company network.

    Protect Line-of-Business Applications
Retrospect's unique multi-volume open file backup capability enables back
up of line-of-business applications such as databases, e-mail, CRM,
accounting, ERP, web sites, and directories while live and in operation.
Increasingly, line-of-business applications use multiple files spread across a
number of hard disks. While one disk, or even a single file, is being backed
up, others are changing. The only two solutions are to shut down the
application or server or to use Retrospect's unique multi-volume capability.

    Easiest to Use Disaster Recovery
Retrospect's Disaster Recovery Wizard creates a bootable CD image from the
backup even after the computer to be restored has died. Other disaster
recovery solutions require that disaster recovery CDs be created while
everything is still working -- before they are needed. Most importantly,
Retrospect can easily restore from any backup, unlike other products, which
require consistent maintenance of a separate disaster recovery set.

    Unsurpassed Safety and Security
Retrospect provides unsurpassed safety and security features. It can
encrypt data prior to it being transmitted over the network or stored on the
backup media. Backup operations can be pre-flight tested to ensure that they
will run correctly. Tapes can be scanned to identify media defects and
duplicated if desired. Backups are verified by comparing the actual bits on
tape to those on the source hard drives. This goes far beyond just comparing
the file names and file sizes.

    Distribution
Retrospect is available from leading technical retail establishments,
including stores, catalogs, and online as well as through resellers, solution
providers, and OEMs worldwide.
