New York Companies Lead the Country in Applying New and Sophisticated Computer
Technologies According to a Survey of PC EXPO Attendees
NEW YORK, June 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Forty-five percent (45%) of
the attendees at this week's PC EXPO/TECHXNY 2002, the leading IT trade show
in New York, believe that when it comes to applying new and sophisticated
computer technologies, New York area companies and organizations lead the rest
of the country. The just-released study of PC EXPO/TECHXNY 2002
pre-registered attendees, conducted by Decipher, Incorporated, probed for
opinions and perspectives on a number of issues relating to technology.
The trade show and conference (http://www.techxny.com ) opens today and runs
through Thursday, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.
When it comes to applying new and sophisticated computer technologies,
New York area companies and organizations:
Lead the rest of the country 45%
Are about the same as the rest of the country 50%
Are behind other regions of the country 5%
The survey reflects that this perspective may be more than just bravado.
Asked to describe some aspects of their current organizations use of
technology, attendees presented this picture:
Technologies Currently Installed in PC EXPO Attendees' Organizations
Use Web services 58%
Use personalization and portal services to extend reach of Web servers 34%
Link its partners and customers to an intranet or extranet 55%
Has enterprise email filtering for spam and viruses 76%
"New York is still the economic capital of the world," states Christina
Condos, Show Director of PC EXPO/TECHXNY. "It has the banking, financial
services, and stock exchanges, which all have tremendous requirements for
advanced technology. It also has many corporate world headquarters, which
need the powerful networking and telecommunications capabilities to link to
offices around the world."
PC EXPO/TECHXNY 2002 attendees, 96% of whom come from the Northeast, also
seem to have a unique ability to observe the technology deployment in their
organizations. Many have functional responsibilities for several diverse
areas of technology, and they also rate themselves as having personal
expertise in several of the key technology areas.
How would you rate your level of knowledge in each of the areas below?
Knowledgeable (Extremely/Very/Somewhat)
Networking 83%
Internet 99%
Application Development 68%
Enterprise Applications 63%
"Many PC EXPO attendees believe New York leads the rest of the country in
adopting new and sophisticated technologies, and I tend to believe they're
probably right," supports Ms. Condos, "but if you want to argue about it with
a bunch of New Yorkers, be my guest."
