Acer America to Demonstrate Tablet PC at TechX New York

TravelMate 100 First Convertible Tablet PC to Test Microsoft Beta Software

NEW YORK, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Acer America announced today that the
Acer TravelMate 100, the first convertible Tablet PC, will be showcased this
week at TechX New York demonstrating the latest Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC
Edition beta software.
The Tablet PC is a broad industry initiative that builds on the digital
pen and speech technologies of Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet PC Edition to
extend the functionality of today's computers. The Tablet PC extends the PC by
adding capabilities such as pen and speech input, wireless support, long
battery life and portability. It is the next step in the evolution of the
personal computer. Unique in its convertible design, the TravelMate 100 Tablet
PC is a full-featured, ultra-portable notebook that quickly transforms from a
traditional "clam shell" mode to "tablet mode" with a simple twist of the LCD
panel. Promoting the concept of the PC evolution, the TravelMate 100 provides
the capabilities of current notebooks while extending the computer's usage to
pen based activities such as taking notes or editing documents. The TravelMate
100 is powered by the Ultra Low Voltage Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) III
Processor-M optimized for high performance computing with low power
consumption.
"Acer has worked closely with Microsoft to develop a product that will
help the consumer move into this new era of computing almost seamlessly," said
Arif Maskatia, Chief Technology Officer of Acer America. "The TravelMate 100
offers the most advanced technology in a familiar form factor allowing for a
comfortable transition."
"We are pleased to have Acer participating in the Tablet PC initiative,"
said Alexandra Loeb, vice president of the Tablet PC division at Microsoft.
"Tablet PC designs like the Acer TravelMate 100 continue to strengthen
Microsoft's vision for the next generation of mobile computing."
Acer will begin shipping the TravelMate 100 Tablet PC with the release of
the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition later this year.
