New Middleware Enables Mobile Professionals to Take Corporate Data on the Road
LAKE WORTH, Fla., June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- DDH Software, maker of the
award-winning HanDBase relational database for Palm Powered(TM) handheld
computers, today unveiled its new HanDBase Data Exchange at PC Expo's Palm
Pavilion. HanDBase Data Exchange will enable HanDBase users to integrate
their handheld databases with Microsoft Access on desktop PCs and ODBC
compatible software applications (e.g. FileMaker Pro, Oracle, SQL Server,
etc.) on corporate networks. The new application will be demonstrated in the
Corporate Palm Pavilion, booth 3404.
"One of the most valuable assets a company has is its own corporate data,
and providing an increasingly mobile workforce with access to that data is a
vital ingredient to ensure that workers are as productive as possible while
on-the-road," said Gabriel Acosta-Lopez, senior director of Platform
Development Services at Palm, Inc. "By enabling enterprise users of Palm
Powered handhelds to exchange data between their home office databases and
HanDBase on their handhelds, DDH Software is offering a very compelling
solution to the mobile computing marketplace."
HanDBase Data Exchange offers an easy-to-use wizard that walks users
through the process of mapping HanDBase fields to and from the enterprise
database application. The set up of this system is simple enough that no
special knowledge or expertise of ODBC or relational databases is required.
After the set-up process is complete, companies will be able to provide mobile
workers with rapid access to its corporate data resources anytime, anyplace.
Mobile professionals using HanDBase Data Exchange will be able to easily
read data into HanDBase from any ODBC level 1.0 driver and write data from
HanDBase to any ODBC level 2.0 driver. Data can be appended to existing tables
and databases, or alternatively replace the existing data table. The
application also offers full support for advanced data types, including
checkbox, decimal numbers, dates, times, pop-up and bit fields.
"Data integration is one of the top requirements our enterprise clients
are seeking in order to embrace and adopt handheld computer technology," said
Paul Hoffman, DDH Software's vice president of sales and marketing. "The goal
for implementing handheld computers in the enterprise market is to boost
productivity, and data integration is an obvious first step toward achieving
that goal. HanDBase Data Exchange is the gateway between a company's corporate
database records and its field associates collecting, referencing and managing
data utilizing handheld computers."
For three years, DDH Software's HanDBase database application has enabled
owners of handheld computing devices to collect, edit and manage information
while away from their personal computers, earning prestigious recognition such
as certification as a Palm Powered compatible solution by Palm, Inc., and is
the exclusive handheld database application to feature cross-compatibility
between Palm and Pocket PC devices.
