Technology Enables Motion-Based User Interfaces and Games
PCEXPO/TECHXNY, NEW YORK, June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Motion Sense(TM)
Corporation announced today that it will demonstrate the first motion-sensing
SDIO module for Palm(TM) handhelds at PC Expo in New York. This new technology
platform, called MoveIt!(TM), enables motion-based capabilities in PDAs,
cellular phones and other electronic devices that take advantage of the new
SDIO technology.
Expected to be one of the first SDIO-based solutions following the
approval of the SDIO specifications by the SD Association, MoveIt! will be
available to Palm developers as an off-the-shelf chip set and reference
design. This will enable developers to create and offer motion-aware
applications -- from mission-critical enterprise applications to games -- on
an SDIO module.
"MoveIt!(TM) is an innovative example of the benefits SDIO expansion
technology delivers to a wide range of Palm handheld users," says Paul Leeper,
director of market development, Palm, Inc. "With this pioneering motion
sensing technology, Palm developers will have the opportunity to create a host
of interactive productivity applications and games for Palm handhelds."
"In addition to enabling highly-efficient features like one-handed
tilt-to-scroll, MoveIt! brings a new form of physical interaction to Palm
handheld applications and games," says Noam Livnat, vice president, marketing
for Motion Sense. "A ball-in-maze game simulated on a PDA screen, for example,
can be made to respond to motion just like the real-world physical game."
MoveIt!(TM) is the result of a close collaboration between Motion Sense,
Palm and Northstar. Adds Declan O'Mahoney, president of Northstar USA, "We are
delighted that Motion Sense invited Northstar to participate in the design and
manufacture of one of the first SDIO modules. The combination of our SDIO
expertise and Motion Sense's technology makes for truly ground-breaking
innovation."
