FilePoint(TM) Will Provide Organization and Faster Access to Application Data
SPARTA, N.J., June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at PC Expo, Bachmann Software
demonstrated a beta version of its new FilePoint(TM) software, a file
management system for Palm Powered(TM) handheld computers. FilePoint allows
users of Palm OS(R) based handhelds to organize their documents and other
files for fast retrieval, viewing, editing and sharing. Integrating key
aspects of application and file management in a single user-friendly
interface, FilePoint gives users the tools to organize and control the
information on their handheld devices.
FilePoint includes an enhanced search feature that provides fast retrieval
of needed documents from the assortment of third-party applications by
querying on file name, date or keyword. A feature allowing users to view the
most recently opened documents significantly reduces the time required to
locate and access frequently-used data.
"As the storage capacity of Palm Powered handheld computers has increased
to eight megabytes and beyond, users are storing hundreds of memos and other
documents on their handhelds," said Gabriel Acosta-Lopez, senior director of
Platform Development Services at Palm, Inc. "We are delighted that Bachmann
Software, a foremost developer for the Palm OS platform, is providing a file
management system that further helps users to achieve rapid access to their
information."
The initial launch of FilePoint will include file management compatibility
with many of the most popular business applications for the Palm OS, including
Quickoffice, WordSmith, Documents to Go, MiniCalc, thinkDB, TinySheet, the
built-in MemoPad, and a variety of document readers. Expansion card support
and other features are expected to be provided in subsequent releases.
"As the success of third-party documents, spreadsheets and databases
continues to grow, storing a large number of files in a single folder without
effective file management capabilities is no longer practical," stated Dan
Reuvers, Bachmann Software's vice president of business development. "As
mobile users grow increasingly dependent on their handheld computers for
critical documents, they require the same kind of organizational tools that
they depend on with their desktop PCs. FilePoint will allow users to manage
their information with faster retrieval and enhanced organization."
FilePoint is now available in a free, limited functioning beta version
from the company's Web site at http://www.bachmannsoftware.com . Bachmann Software
plans to follow up with a full-functioning commercial release of FilePoint in
approximately 60 days. The purchase of a registration code will be required
for continued use of some program features and application support.
Pricing for FilePoint is not available at this time but will be finalized
with the commercial release that is tentatively scheduled for early August
2001.
