RALEIGH, N.C., June 27, 2007 /PRNewswire/ -- CIGNA HealthCare today
announced the appointment of Edward N. Hunsinger, M.D., as the new senior
medical executive for the company's Carolina region. In this role, Dr.
Hunsinger will lead physician relations, medical management and quality
improvement initiatives to help improve health outcomes and manage medical
costs in the region. Dr. Hunsinger will be based in Winston-Salem, N.C.

someone with Dr. Hunsinger's background is joining our team."
Dr. Hunsinger, a board certified family practitioner, brings
significant experience to the position with a varied background in clinical
quality, physician recruitment and medical affairs, strategic planning and
business operations. He began his career in clinical medicine in Florida
establishing a solo practice, subsequently growing to a group practice that
remains successful today. He then co-founded the first physician IPA in
North Central Florida which has since become part of Av-Med Health Plan. He
later founded Aegis Family Health Centers, a subsidiary of Wake Forest
University in Winston-Salem and served as its chief executive officer. He
also co-founded a healthcare consulting firm, Facilitate Health, in North
Carolina. He most recently served as the market medical director for United
Healthcare of the Carolinas.
Dr. Hunsinger received his medical degree from the University of
Florida where he also completed his residency in family practice. In
addition, he held clinical faculty positions at the departments of
Community and Family Medicine at the University of Florida and the Bowman
Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. Dr. Hunsinger also
served as chief resident of family practice at Alachua General
Hospital-University of Florida where he earned recognition as one of the
top 18 family practice residents in the country after receiving the Mead
Johnson Award, an honor issued by the American Academy of Family Practice
to second-year residents who demonstrate leadership, community involvement
and exemplary patient care.
