Media Event Announcing $1,000,000 Grant for DUI Pilot Project

PennDOT is hosting "TEAM DUI" kickoff at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 29,
at Point State Park. An aggressive pilot program to reduce DUI crashes will
be announced.
The new program is being implemented as a national prototype in
cooperation with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Only 5 states in the U.S. were chosen. The federal grant awarded to the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be used in participating
counties as a supplement to the existing grant monies available for DUI
enforcement. The supplement is for a research project for gathering data to
determine effective DUI campaigns.
Opportunities to learn about full DUI checkpoints, reduced manpower
checkpoints, "cops in shops," "roving patrols," "operation yellow jacket,"
mobile awareness programs and education aimed at youth and repeat offenders
will be possible. "Walk the Line" will be presented using "Fatal Vision"
goggles.
Offering remarks will be PennDOT District Engineers Ray Hack and Mike
Dufala, Officer Pat Fabozzi from the Baldwin Borough Police Department and
"Team DUI" participants.
Your Coverage Is Invited and Encouraged.

CONTACT: Catherine Tress of PennDOT, 412-429-6035.
