SEATTLE, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Immunex Corporation (Nasdaq: IMNX)
announced today that Barry G. Pea will succeed Scott G. Hallquist as the
company's senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. In his new
role, Mr. Pea will become an executive officer of Immunex. Mr. Hallquist will
focus his efforts on the company's alliance management initiatives, including
potential product and technology acquisitions.

already strong leadership role in the company will facilitate a strategic

Mr. Pea, 42, joined Immunex in 1996 as associate general counsel and was
appointed vice president and deputy general counsel in 1998. His 14 years of
legal experience include 11 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to
joining Immunex, Mr. Pea was senior counsel for Glaxo Wellcome Inc. He
received a J.D. with honors from Duke University School of Law in 1986 and a
B.A. with high honors from Wheaton College in 1980.
Mr. Hallquist, 46, has been general counsel of Immunex since 1989, and
will now direct his efforts to alliance development as executive advisor. He
will lead the alliance team's efforts to acquire products and technologies to
enhance the company's research platforms and provide new product candidates to
expand the company's market positions in cancer, autoimmune and inflammatory
disorders. He holds M.B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of
North Carolina, and a B.S. from Duke University.
The changes are effective immediately.
