GOLETA, Calif., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has
received a $12.3 million award from the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command for
AN/ALE-50A Towed Decoy Integrated Multi-Platform Launch Controllers. The award
is an option to the original production contract that began in March 1999.
Integrated Multi-Platform Launch Controllers provide towed decoy launch
control on board a variety of military aircraft. They are an upgraded version
of Raytheon's ALE-50 Multi-Platform Launch Controllers. As part of this award,
the U.S. Navy has ordered 105 launch controllers planned for use on U.S. Navy
F/A-18E/F aircraft and U.S. Air Force F-15 and B-1B aircraft. Hardware
deliveries are scheduled to begin in May 2002 and continue through April 2003.
Under the current contract, one additional follow-on option remains to be
exercised.
Towed decoy systems provide significantly enhanced aircraft survivability
by acting as a preferential target for many types of missile threats.
Raytheon's ALE-50 system played a key role in Operation Allied Force aircraft
self-protection efforts. Raytheon's work on the towed decoy system takes place
in Goleta, Calif., by the company's Electronic Warfare Operations. Raytheon is
a member of the Air Force, Navy, and industry team that integrates the ALE-50
Towed Decoy system on board F-16, B-1B, and F/A-18E/F aircraft.
With headquarters in Lexington, Mass., Raytheon Company is a global
technology leader in defense, government, and commercial electronics, and
business and special mission aircraft.
