GOVSEC, The Government Security Expo and Conference
Coming to Washington Convention Center, July 28-29, 2004
ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Colonel Edward Badolato, USMC
(Ret) will address GOVSEC, The Government Security Expo and Conference, on
Wednesday, July 28, 2004 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the Washington Convention
Center, Washington, D.C. "Taking the Terror Out of Terrorism: A Blueprint for
Defeating Terrorism" will address how every American must change the way they
approach terrorism, in order to wage war -- and win -- against it. He will
describe how and why changes must be made in order to protect against future
attacks, basic vulnerabilities of terrorists, and how we can put a strategy in
place to defeat terrorism in our own backyards and neighborhoods. Colonel
Badolato, a member of the GOVSEC Advisory Board, served former Presidents
Reagan and Bush as Deputy Secretary of Energy, with a specific focus on
counterterrorism.
Many GOVSEC conference sessions will address homeland security concerns,
including a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, July 29th from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.
This session, open to all GOVSEC attendees, is hosted by the President's
Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) Subcommittee on Cyber
Security, with the objective of gathering information on public opinion
regarding the United States investment in cyber security research and
development.
Dr. David Kay, the former Special Advisor on Iraqi Weapons of Mass
Destruction to the Director of Central Intelligence will speak on Wednesday,
July 28 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. to a joint audience comprised of attendees of
GOVSEC and its companion events, U.S. LAW and READY! Asa Hutchinson, the
Department of Homeland Security's Under Secretary for Border and
Transportation Security, will speak on Thursday, July 29th from 1:00 - 2:00
p.m.
In conjunction with GOVSEC, the National Terrorism Preparedness Institute
of St. Petersburg College will present Live Response: "Coordination of
Intelligence Collection," a one-hour discussion about how to collect and share
intelligence information for improving homeland security. This session will
be broadcast live from the GOVSEC Exposition on Wednesday, July 28th from 2:00
- 3:00 p.m.
GOVSEC will provide attendees with an intensive two-day educational and
professional networking experience. In addition to an exhibition of more than
250 industry leading vendors focused on physical and cyber security, GOVSEC
offers a full conference program of twenty in-depth sessions on the most
pressing issues for security professionals working in the public sector
environment. Among the conference sessions are discussions about the
challenges of secure information-sharing, which departments are meeting their
security objectives, what the role of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) should
be, and case studies from the government security frontline.
Co-located with GOVSEC are two related conferences: the U.S. Law
Enforcement Conference and Exposition (U.S. LAW), and READY!, the Emergency
Preparedness and Response Conference and Exposition. These three conferences
and expositions provide these diverse yet related groups the opportunity to
discuss the latest management strategies, technologies, and policies that
impact their operating environments. Attendees of all three conferences will
be permitted into Colonel Badolato's session.
In its second year, U.S. LAW addresses our country's need for interagency
communication and technological innovation in the law enforcement field.
Sixteen sessions examine topics including terrorism, street drugs, electronic
crime scenes, wireless and mobile identification, voice analysis and a variety
of other tools used by officers in the post 9/11 world.
New for 2004, READY! brings together firefighters, police, medical, and
other government professionals to discuss the key pillars of emergency
management -- prevention, preparation, recovery and response. READY! has
become a platform for the Department of Homeland Security's National Response
Plan (NRP) and National Incident Management System (NIMS), which recently
established emergency response protocols for federal, state and local
governments to follow in the wake of disaster.
