Sontra Medical Establishes a Clinical Advisory Board for Critical Care Glucose Monitor

                       Clinical Trials Planned in 2006

FRANKLIN, Mass., June 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sontra Medical
Corporation (Nasdaq: SONT) announced today the formation of a Clinical
Advisory Board who will provide product and clinical guidance to the Company
for the continuous non-invasive glucose monitor that is being developed for
use in intensive care units (ICU) and operating rooms (OR).

Appointments to the Clinical Advisory Board include:
    * Bruce R. Bistrian, M.D., Ph.D., Chief of Clinical Nutrition, Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center and Professor, Harvard Medical School.
    * Peter A. Burke, M.D., Chief of Critical Care Section, Surgery, Boston
Medical Center, and Associate Professor of Surgery, Boston University
      School of Medicine.
    * Alan Lisbon, M.D., Vice Chairman of Critical Care, Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center and Associate Professor, Anesthesiology, Harvard Medical
      School.
    * Mitchell M. Levy, M.D., Medical Director, Medical Intensive Care Unit,
      Rhode Island Hospital
    * Stanley A. Nasraway, M.D., Chief of Surgical Critical Care, Tufts-New
England Medical Center, and Associate Professor, Tufts Medical School.
    * Richard J. Shemin, M.D., Chief of the Department of Cardiothoracic
Surgery, Boston Medical Center and Professor and Chairman of the
Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Boston University School of
      Medicine.

"We are privileged to have attracted such a preeminent group of critical
care physicians from New England's top research and teaching hospitals to
serve as an advisory board for our continuous non-invasive glucose monitor,"
stated Sontra's Chief Executive Officer and President, Thomas W. Davison,
Ph.D. "This product has the potential to meet a major unmet need in
critically ill and post surgical patients for continuous non-invasive glucose
monitoring. We are developing a product for the $5 billion home testing
market in parallel with the critical care monitor."
Dr. Stanley A. Nasraway stated, "Tight glycemic control for ICU patients
has been shown in clinical studies to improve outcomes by reducing mortality
and complications related to infection, thereby decreasing hospital stay and
cost. This is achieved today with intensive insulin therapy and hourly blood
glucose measurements, the importance of which is quickly emerging as a Vital
Sign. A continuous non-invasive glucose monitor will not only save valuable
nursing time by avoiding the requirement for frequent needle stick glucose
measurements but will provide the information we need to develop better
control algorithms for insulin administration."
A primary cause of infection in critically ill patients is hyperglycemia
which is a result of insulin resistance and total parenteral nutrition.
Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that intensive insulin therapy to
maintain tight glycemic control significantly reduces infection rates,
mortality, hospital stay and cost. As a result, intensive insulin
administration with frequent blood glucose testing is a recent trend in
critical care medicine for patients with and without diabetes. Today,
standard practice by ICU nurses is to measure blood glucose at the bedside
hourly and to note, not only the absolute value, but the rate of change. A
continuous non-invasive glucose monitor should reduce the increasing workload
for critical care nurses who spend an estimated 5 - 10 minutes per hour
managing intensive insulin therapy with repeated blood glucose measurements.
