Raytheon Wins Radio Procurement Potentially Worth $179 Million

FORT WAYNE, Ind., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company
(NYSE: RTNA, RTNB) has received a four-year contract to provide Multi-Band
Multi-Mission Radio (MMBMR) systems to the United States Special Operations
Command (USSOCOM). The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity, firm-fixed
price contract was awarded by USSOCOM, MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Fla. The
award has an initial value of $5.75 million. Fully exercised options would
bring the total to $179 million. Under the initial contract, Raytheon will
provide two vehicular and 227 manpack systems.
Based on Raytheon's PSC-5D radio, MBMMR is an enhanced communication
system designed for U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force special operations forces.
The new radio delivers all the communications capabilities a special
operations soldier needs, while significantly reducing the weight and volume
of the equipment carried in the soldier's rucksack. MBMMR replaces several
single band radio systems currently used to communicate on different networks
and includes the following enhancements: Have Quick II, SINCGARS SIP, an
enhanced key management system (EKMS) for the latest in secure communications
links, 30 to 512 MHz frequency coverage and high-speed, line-of-site data
transmission.
"MBMMR combines three radios into one. It takes 18 pounds and 500 cubic
inches off the back of a special operations warrior-that reduction in combat
load is sure to help the warfighter do a better job," said Ken Peterman,
Raytheon Tactical Systems' business development director.
Raytheon Company, based in Lexington, Mass., is a global technology leader
that provides products and services in the areas of commercial and defense
electronics, engineering and construction, and business and special mission
aircraft. Raytheon has operations throughout the United States and serves
customers in more than 80 countries around the world.

Program design, engineering and management will be done at Raytheon
Tactical Systems operation in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Production will occur at Raytheon C3I's manufacturing facility in Largo,
Fla.
First Article Test systems will be delivered in June 2000 - Initial
production deliveries will begin in September 2000.
