Terra Industries Inc. (NYSE: TRA) announces the promotion of Mark A.
Kalafut (48) to Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. In
this position, he is responsible for all legal matters, insurance and claim
resolution for Terra Industries Inc. and its subsidiaries.
Kalafut earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor degree from the
University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1974 and 1977, respectively. He joined
Union Pacific Railroad Company's law department in Omaha, Neb., in January
1978, and was ultimately promoted to the position of General Commerce Counsel.
In April 1989, Kalafut joined Terra International, Inc., a subsidiary of Terra
Industries Inc., as its General Counsel. In 1995, he was promoted to Terra
Industries' Vice President and Associate General Counsel, a position he has
held until this promotion.
Kalafut is admitted to the practice of law in Iowa and Nebraska, and
licensed to practice before the Courts of Appeals for the Third, Ninth and
District of Columbia Circuits. He and his wife, Sue Ann, live in Sioux City
and have three daughters and a son.
