Twelve Months; Experiences an 80 Percent Reduction In Bugs and 30 Percent Less
Documents Written
LEXINGTON, Mass., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL)
and Ericsson announced today they have signed a new worldwide strategic
agreement. Ericsson will expand its use of the full suite of Rational products
and services to accelerate development of its third generation products.
The agreement gives all Ericsson companies worldwide access to Rational's
technology. Under the new agreement, a dedicated team of Rational support
managers is in place across Rational's global support centers in Europe, the
Americas and Asia Pacific to provide coordinated support across all Ericsson
design centers worldwide.
Ericsson and Rational have been working together for more than a decade, a
relationship that has resulted in important advances in Rational's software
best practices and tools and in Ericsson's productivity. Several thousand of
Ericsson's software developers around the world use Rational's tools. Through
its use of Rational tools, Ericsson has cut production time for two comparable
releases from sixteen to twelve months, experienced an 80 percent reduction in
bugs and reduced its documentation by 30 percent.
"Ericsson is a tremendous partner," says Mike Devlin, co-founder and chief
executive officer of Rational Software. "Our collaboration is valuable for
both of us. We help Ericsson become more effective in software development and
they are pushing us with new demands, which helps us stay ahead of our
competitors."
As part of the new contract, Ericsson will use Rational products and
services to run development projects efficiently, including Rational Rose(R)
for modeling, Rational ClearCase(R) for configuration management and the
Rational Unified Process(R)(RUP). Ericsson has developed its own extension of
RUP, ERUP, as a corporate wide framework for software process improvement.
Ericsson will also use Rational's products, such as Rational Rose (R)
RealTime, in the area of embedded software.
Ericsson and Rational have also signed a corporate education agreement
that gives Ericsson global access to Rational's extensive courseware. Ericsson
will use this to educate and train its own personnel on modern software best
practices and Rational tools.
Today's third generation products for the mobile Internet are more than 80
percent software-based. Rational is a key partner for Ericsson in the process
of change and Rational's consultants are working with Ericsson to improve its
software development capability at both the project and organizational level.
