County to Implement Accela Wireless to Facilitate Mobile Inspections and
Accela GIS to Automate Map Analysis
DUBLIN, Calif., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Accela, Inc., the leading provider
of government enterprise management software solutions, announced today that
San Bernardino County has selected Accela to implement expanded e-government
services with Accela GIS(TM) and Accela Wireless(TM).
Accela Wireless gives the County powerful mobile inspection capabilities
to streamline the inspection and approval process. Inspectors in the Land Use
Services Department will be able to shift daily tasks from the office to the
field using portable devices (e.g., laptops, PDAs, etc.) that allow them to
remotely access permit-related data. While in the field, inspectors will input
their inspection results and the information will be uploaded to the
Department's database in real-time. The application also offers an off-line
mode that can be used when wireless coverage is unavailable; updates are saved
to the inspector's mobile device and uploaded to the agency database once a
connection is reestablished or when the inspector returns to the office.
The County will also be implementing Accela GIS, an application that
allows users to pull information from the County's GIS database to automate
map analysis and speed up the review process. Accela GIS graphically
represents a broad range of complex geographic information specific to the
active case, application, or permit so agency staff can determine if there are
any potential issues or violations with the particular application.
The applications offer field inspectors additional functionality to
optimize their travel time. Leveraging information in the County's GIS
database, inspectors can analyze a list of addresses and calculate the most
efficient travel path, complete with written directions and an inspection
route map. All of this information can then be downloaded to the Accela
Wireless client device so inspectors have an efficient travel route for the
day.
"Accela Wireless and Accela GIS add key functionality that allows our
Department to more efficiently manage inspections, approvals, and code
enforcement case tracking," said Michael E. Hays, Director of Land Use
Services for San Bernardino County.
"We are excited that San Bernardino County is taking this important step
in expanding its e-government services," stated Robert P. Lee, Accela
President and CEO. "By expediting the application review and inspection
process jurisdictions can improve internal efficiencies, increase citizen
satisfaction, and spur economic growth in their communities."
Located in Southern California, San Bernardino County is the largest
county in the state, covering more than 20,000 square miles. It is the fourth
most populous of California's 58 counties with 1.9 million residents. The
County joins hundreds of other jurisdictions in California who are already
using Accela solutions. These include: Alameda County, Anaheim, Contra Costa
County, Irvine, Los Angeles County, Modesto, Orange County, Pasadena, Placer
