Reliant Energy Names Matthew Benner Senior Vice President, Retail Marketing and Operations

    HOUSTON, June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Reliant Energy announced
today that effective July 17, 2006, Matthew "Matt" Benner will join the
company as senior vice president, retail marketing and operations.
    "Matt Benner's combination of broad marketing, telecommunications and
financial services experience will help us extend our lead in retail
electricity," said Joel V. Staff, Reliant Energy's chairman and chief
executive officer. "Matt will bring a distinctive marketing perspective to
the Reliant leadership team."
    Benner will oversee Reliant's retail marketing and operations in ERCOT
and PJM, covering residential, small and large commercial and industrial
segments.
    He will work closely with retail supply leadership to achieve the
financial and operating goals of the retail business. He will report to
Brian Landrum, executive vice president, operations.
    With more than 20 years of marketing experience, Benner has held
leadership positions in the financial services, telecommunications and
consumer goods industries. His most recent experience was as chief
marketing officer of international retail and commercial banking at
Barclays Bank PLC.
    Previously, he was senior vice president of marketing for Fidelity
Investments, where he focused on a wide range of corporate benefits and
investment services. Benner also served as marketing vice president of the
consumer division for AT&T and has held various positions in brand
management at Kraft Foods Inc. and Procter and Gamble.
    Benner received his bachelor's of science in chemical and nuclear
engineering from Princeton University.
