Town Hall Meeting Addressing Cyber Security R&D Priorities to Be Held in Conjunction With GOVSEC, The Government Security Expo and Conference

GOVSEC is Coming to Washington, D.C. July 28-29, 2004

    ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The President's Information
Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) Subcommittee on Cyber Security will hold
a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, July 29, 2004, from 8-10 a.m. in conjunction
with GOVSEC, The Government Security Expo and Conference. The purpose of the
Town Hall meeting is to provide the PITAC Subcommittee with public input on
U.S. investments in cyber security research and development.
PITAC was chartered by Congress to provide the President, Congress, and
the Federal agencies involved in information technology research and
development with independent, expert advice to maintain the United States'
preeminence in the development of advanced information technologies. The
Subcommittee on Cyber Security was formed specifically to focus on the
effectiveness of various research programs for information security and
related disciplines managed by the federal government. Additional information
about PITAC may be found at http://www.itrd.gov/pitac.
This town hall meeting is being held in conjunction with the third annual
GOVSEC, The Government Security Expo and Conference. GOVSEC provides physical
and information security professionals across government and industry with a
focused opportunity to share strategies, form collaborative networks, and
learn about current security products and services for government
practitioners.
In tandem with the GOVSEC Expo, an exhibition of over 250 industry leaders
in the fields of physical and information security technology, a full
conference program offers 20 in-depth sessions on the most pressing issues for
security professionals working in the public sector environment. Among the
conference sessions are discussions about the challenges of secure
information-sharing, which departments are meeting their security objectives,
and what the role of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) should be, as well as
case studies from the government security frontline.
Co-located with GOVSEC are two related conferences, the U.S. Law
Enforcement Conference and Exposition (U.S. LAW) and READY!, the Emergency
Preparedness and Response Conference and Exposition. These three conferences
and expositions provide these diverse, yet related groups the opportunity to
discuss the latest management strategies, technologies, and policies that
impact their operating environments.
In its second year, U.S. LAW addresses our country's need for interagency
communication and technological innovation in the law enforcement field.
Sixteen sessions examine topics including; terrorism, street drugs, electronic
crime scenes, wireless and mobile identification, voice analysis and a variety
of other tools used by officers in the post 9/11 world.
New for 2004, READY! brings together firefighters, police, medical and
other government professionals to discuss the key pillars of emergency
management -- prevention, preparation, recovery and response. READY! has
become a platform for the Department of Homeland Security's National Response
Plan (NRP) and National Incident Management System (NIMS), which recently
established emergency response protocols for all communities, large and small,
to follow in the wake of disaster.
Asa Hutchinson, Under Secretary, Border and Transportation Security, U.S.
Department of Homeland Security will speak on Thursday, July 29, 2004, from
1:00-2:00 pm; and Dr. David Kay, the former Special Advisor on Iraqi Weapons
of Mass Destruction to the Director of Central Intelligence, will speak on
Wednesday, July 28, 2004, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in a joint session addressing
