JUNO BEACH, FL USA
JUNO BEACH, Fla., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Power & Light Company has
been recognized by Computerworld, a leading information technology (IT)
publication, as one of the best places to work in IT and as one of the most
diverse information technology organizations in corporate America.
Computerworld ranked the company third for its diverse work force, up from
eighth in 2000, and 56th among the 100 best places to work in its eighth
annual "100 Best Places to Work" survey.
Dennis Klinger, vice president of information management for FPL, said
about the honor, "We are excited to be named among the best and most diverse
places to work in information technology. FPL is pleased to be recognized as
a leader in fostering a diverse work force."
In developing its rankings, Computerworld reviewed FPL's benefits,
training and development, average salary increases, percentage of staff
promoted, turnover rates and the percentage of women and minority employees on
staff and in IT management positions. In addition, information was collected
on each organization's priority projects, mentoring programs and benefits,
including elder and child care, flextime and stock options.
Computerworld says that even with the down turn in the IT job market,
professionals remain "very fussy" about where they work. To the hiring
manager, Computerworld says, "The surest way to attract and keep skilled IT
talent is to be known as an employer of choice -- a best place to work."
Curt Sterling, manager of equal employment opportunity and diversity for
FPL, says, "There continues to be a commitment to diversity at FPL. That
commitment includes training in diversity leadership, which is a required core
competency for our managers."
