NEW YORK, NY USA
RALEIGH, N.C., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens Power Transmission and
Distribution, Inc. has completed its second month of expanded OASIS operations
under an innovative and collaborative ASP (application service provider)
delivery model. In operation since April 16, this new service provides OASIS
services to PJM Interconnection's members and customers, as well as hosted
third-party Available Flowgate Calculations (AFC) for the entire PJM region
including future market members Commonwealth Edison (Exelon) and Dayton Power
& Light (DP&L).
PJM operates the world's largest competitive wholesale electricity market
and North America's largest centrally dispatched control area and serves all
or parts of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West
Virginia and the District of Columbia. The company currently coordinates a
pooled generating capacity of more than 74,000 megawatts and operates a
wholesale electricity market with more than 200 market buyers, sellers and
traders of electricity.
Hosted in Minneapolis, Minn., the OASIS node serving PJM represents the
latest in technology, constructed on an Oracle(R) database platform that will
provide for flexibility and adaptability as the energy industry and PJM
continue to transition. In addition, an integration bus, built on IBM(R)
MQSeries(TM) technology, securely transfers data between PJM, their members,
and the Siemens Data Center. This integration bus enables members to easily
integrate their new applications with existing legacy systems.
"Advanced technologies are critical to maintaining our responsibility of
delivering both reliable electricity and premier customer service," said Mike
Bryson, manager of transmission services, PJM. "The Siemens Data Center is
contributing to the progress that we are making, especially as we work to
continue to enhance transmission services."
On May 21, 2003, the Siemens Data Center also began hosting, the OASIS
node for DP&L, which was previously part of the ECAR OASIS node. This step
facilitated easy integration with the new AFC engine operated by PJM, and
moved Dayton forward on the path toward full integration into the PJM market.
