TEWKSBURY, Mass., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Navy's Program Executive
Office for Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) today dedicated a new facility
that will serve as a key resource for the development of open architecture for
DoD-wide applications. The Open Architecture Test Facility is located at the
Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Va.
The facility was developed under Raytheon's contract as Electronic and
Weapon Systems Integrator on the DD(X) program. Technologies developed for
DD(X) are expected to have a wide range of applications for future DoD system
developments.
"Raytheon is proud to have had a key role in the establishment of this
facility," said Dan Smith, vice president of Raytheon Integrated Defense
Systems. "Open architecture is increasingly important to hardware and
software design for all military systems, and we look forward to assisting our
military and industrial partners in achieving their goals through open
architecture approaches."
Open architecture allows for the use of future technology and insertion of
components from one generation to the next based on hardware and software
products that conform to open standards - resulting in significant savings and
improving interoperability. The Open Architecture Test Facility will lead in
the identification and selection of commercially derived standards for
military applications.
