ST. LOUIS, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Mallinckrodt Inc. (NYSE: MKG) has
announced an agreement with SmithKline Beecham which grants Mallinckrodt
exclusive copromotion rights in the United States for Dexedrine(R)
(dextroamphetamine sulfate), a medication indicated for attention deficit
disorder with hyperactivity (ADHD) and narcolepsy.
SmithKline Beecham's Dexedrine is available in 5 mg. immediate release
tablets and 5, 10 and 15 mg. sustained release (SR) Spansule(R) Capsules.
Under the agreement, Mallinckrodt will share in the growth of Dexedrine.

Mallinckrodt will market Dexedrine and its recently launched Methylin(TM)
(methylphenidate HCl) tablets to pediatricians and child psychiatrists.
Sales for all segments of the market for products used to treat ADHD were
estimated to be more than $650 million in 1998, with an annual growth rate of
about 20 percent.

Dexedrine is a safe and effective treatment for pediatric patients (ages 3
to 16) with attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity (ADHD) and for
adults with narcolepsy. Dexedrine is an amphetamine and has a high potential
for abuse. Healthcare professionals should be wary of subjects obtaining
amphetamines for non-therapeutic use. Patients with a history of
cardiovascular or thyroid disease should not take Dexedrine. Before
prescribing Dexedrine, healthcare providers should refer to complete
prescribing information for other precautions, drug interactions and common
side effects.
