Annual Gala is Culmination of Henry Mancini Institute's Summer Education
Program and Free Summer Music Festival - Saturday August 14th at
UCLA's Royce Hall
LOS ANGELES, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Henry Mancini Institute (HMI)
today announced the lineup for its 2004 Mancini Musicale honoring Burt
Bacharach, to be held on August 14, 2004 at UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles,
California. The HMI will present Bacharach with its fifth annual Hank Award,
which recognizes distinguished service to American music.

this year," said Ginny Mancini, President of the Board of the Henry Mancini
Institute.
In six decades, Bacharach has amassed one of the most impressive resumes
in the history of American music. Mentioned as easily alongside names like
Gershwin and Porter as he is with Lennon, McCartney and Dylan, Bacharach's
influence on modern music cannot be understated.
Among the hits for which Bacharach is renowned include "What the World
Needs Now is Love," "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" "The Look of Love,"
"Walk on By," and "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself," the latter a
modern rock hit by the White Stripes last year. His accolades are too
numerous to mention, and include three Academy Awards and five GRAMMY(R)
Awards (including the 1997 Trustees Award with longtime collaborator Hal
David).
Coming on the heels of the HMI's Free Summer Music Festival, the Mancini
Musicale is the organization's annual fundraising event, and serves as a
culmination of its Summer Education Program. All proceeds go to the HMI
Scholarship Fund, which provides program participants with tuition, room and
board. The Mancini Musicale will spotlight the Henry Mancini Orchestra, led
by Emmy(R) and GRAMMY(R) award-winning Artistic Director Patrick Williams,
alongside such musical legends as saxophonist Tom Scott and trumpeter Cecil
Welch. Burt Bacharach will also perform a medley of his songs. Legendary
music producer and past Hank Award recipient Phil Ramone will present the 2004
Hank Award to Bacharach.

Tom Scott, whose L.A. Express became one of the most successful pop-jazz
outfits of the seventies, brings a unique crossover flair to everything he
does. His work with Joni Mitchell, George Harrison and Carole King represents
just a small sampling of his groundbreaking success in melding pop and Jazz.
Cecil Welch was the Principal Trumpet for Henry Mancini's permanent
touring entourage for 18 years and is thrilled to perform "The Spanish
Trumpet" at the event, which Henry wrote for him.
