Raytheon Awarded $6 Million for Maritime Domain Awareness Homeland Security Project

TEWKSBURY, Mass., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company has been
awarded a $6 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense's Counter-
Narcoterrorism Technology Program Office for a project that will demonstrate
an integrated systems approach for the defense of maritime domains -- such as
ports, shorelines, and sea lanes -- against maritime-based homeland security
threats.
Raytheon's Maritime Domain Awareness project showcases the enhanced
capabilities provided by the integration of disparate data from a wide range
of radar, sonar and surveillance sources that detect, track, and identify
potential threats. It relays and presents the information in a common
operating picture and disseminates actionable intelligence to the appropriate
responders.
"This project is ideally suited to Raytheon's strengths as a leading
mission systems integrator and a valued teammate to partner companies with
complementary technologies," said Dan Smith, president of Raytheon Integrated
Defense Systems. "This demonstration will showcase the benefits provided by a
system of systems approach that maximizes the effectiveness of the
technologies employed to monitor maritime activities and arms responders with
the information necessary to protect our nation's ports and shorelines from
external threats."
Under the contract, Raytheon will conduct two demonstrations and provide
all supporting documentation deliverables, including requirements documents,
design drawings, status updates, test plans and test reports, and deliver a
final report to the Department of Defense. The first demonstration site will
focus on Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay. It will integrate existing
surveillance technologies and introduce new sources - many of which are to be
provided by Raytheon's local small business partners.
Work will be performed at Raytheon's Naval Integration Center in
Portsmouth, R.I.
Based in Tewksbury, Mass., Integrated Defense Systems is Raytheon's leader

Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), with 2003 sales of $18.1 billion, is an
