Raytheon Puts Thermal Imaging in the Hands of Public Safety and Security Officers

Small, Lightweight Camera Sees the Unseen, Even Under Cover of Darkness

    DALLAS, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- A palm-sized thermal imaging camera is now
available from Raytheon Company's Commercial Infrared (RCI) business, allowing
public safety and security officers to easily see people and objects that are
virtually invisible to the naked eye, even when shrouded in darkness. The
X100, which was used by troops of the 101st Airborne Division during Operation
Iraqi Freedom, gives users the ability to see through darkness and other
obstructions to visibility, whether on a routine patrol, searching for a
missing child or tracking a fugitive.
Measuring only five inches long, weighing 13 ounces and powered by two AA
batteries, the X100 is the smallest and lightest handheld thermal imaging
camera available on the market. Designed to survive the rigors of extreme
outdoor use, the waterproof camera has a rubberized, slip-resistant body,
endures vibration and can withstand torrential downpours, submersion in water
and shock.
"The X100 withstood the most difficult and demanding test of all -- use by
our troops in Iraq," said RCI President Chris Bade. "This unique thermal
imager has already proven its tremendous value in the field, and early testing
and use clearly indicates that we have exceeded the expectations of the
marketplace. In addition, the affordable X100 pricing structure will enable
law enforcement organizations and agencies of all types to equip all of their
officers with this important tool."
The X100 is designed for easy use by operators on the move. It has just
one button for on and off functionality, focuses easily and features an LCD
display and eyecup that allow an operator to easily view the camera's image,
even when wearing glasses, a face shield or a gas mask. The X100 also features
a maximum light security eyepiece, which does not illuminate the user's face.
This is a crucial element in surveillance operations, when users would not
want their presence or positions revealed by the glow of a camera.

Raytheon Commercial Infrared, based in Dallas, designs, manufactures and
sells a wide range of thermal imaging products and solutions serving the
security, firefighting, public safety, transportation, industrial and homeland
security markets. Product applications include search and rescue, perimeter
