WESTPORT, Conn., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Pharmaceutical manufacturers in
Japan will be among the first in the world to benefit from the launch of
IMS HEALTH's (NYSE: RX) next-generation market data collection and reporting
service, the company announced today. With this new service, IMS HEALTH
customers in the world's second largest pharmaceutical market can receive
product and marketing intelligence faster than ever before. IMS HEALTH is the

The company has secured agreements with 135 pharmaceutical wholesalers --
representing virtually the entire U.S.$45 billion drug market in Japan -- to
supply IMS HEALTH with daily sales data. As a result, IMS HEALTH will be able
to deliver pharmaceutical market data to its Japan clients on a weekly, rather
than monthly, basis starting this month.

Using a telecommunications link, the panel wholesalers transmit daily
sales data to IMS HEALTH at the close of business each day. The data --
averaging more than 1.9 million records daily -- are then coded and processed
overnight at IMS HEALTH's in-house computer facility, compiled into weekly
market data and released to clients each Wednesday for the previous week.
This initiative accelerates the availability of several IMS HEALTH
reports. New "flash" monthly data are now available in Japan within three
working days following the close of the month. In addition, delivery time for
IMS HEALTH's regular monthly audit reports has been shortened by more than a
week, with data delivered to clients within 21 days of the end of a month.
