GOVSEC, The Government Security Expo and Conference
                 Coming to Washington, D.C. July 28-29, 2004

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Asa Hutchinson, Under Secretary
for Border and Transportation Security for the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security, will provide the final keynote address at GOVSEC, The Government
Security Expo and Conference, to be held at the Washington Convention Center
July 28-29, 2004, in Washington, D.C.
Hutchinson will speak on Thursday, July 29, 2004, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in a
joint session addressing attendees of GOVSEC and two related events, the U.S.
Law Enforcement Conference and Exposition (U.S. LAW), and READY!, The
Emergency Preparedness and Response Conference and Exposition.
Hutchinson has served as Under Secretary for Border and Transportation
Security since his appointment by President Bush in January 2003. In this
capacity, Hutchinson leads over 110,000 employees and is responsible for
coordinating the enforcement activities of United States borders,
transportation and immigration systems. Prior to joining the DHS, Hutchinson
served as a Member of Congress from 1997-2001, where he served on the Select
Committee on Intelligence and the House Judiciary Committee.
"This combined audience of security personnel, law enforcement agencies,
and first responders keep our country safe every day, and I am honored to be
addressing them," said Under Secretary Hutchinson.
GOVSEC is a forum for government officials responsible for protecting
physical and information security assets across federal, state, and local
jurisdictions. This third annual event will provide security professionals
with a focused opportunity to share strategies, form collaborative networks,
and learn about current security products and services for government
practitioners. In 2003, GOVSEC was recognized by Tradeshow Week during a
celebration honoring the fastest 50 growing tradeshows from all industries.
The GOVSEC Exposition features products that address anti-hacking,
biometrics, biological and chemical substance detection, computer forensics,
encryption, forced-entry tools, and Internet security. Many of these
strategies will be demonstrated by industry leaders at the GOVSEC/IT venue, a
special area devoted to information technology security developments and
solutions. GOVSEC attendees can customize their participation by selecting
from twenty conference sessions that will cover physical security management
and technology, operations security and information sharing, and management
and technology concerns for IT Security.
Co-located with GOVSEC are two related conferences, the U.S. Law
Enforcement Conference and Exposition (U.S. LAW) and READY!, the Emergency
Preparedness and Response Conference and Exposition.
In its second year, U.S. LAW addresses national requirements for
interagency communication and technological innovation in the law enforcement
community. Sixteen sessions examine priority topics for law enforcement
professionals, including; terrorism, street drugs, electronic crime scenes,
wireless and mobile identification, voice analysis and other tools required by
officers in the post 9/11 environment. More information is available online
at http://www.uslawenforcement.com.
New for 2004, READY!, The Emergency Preparedness and Response Conference
and Exposition concentrates on the key areas of emergency response and
homeland security -- preparation, prevention, response, and recovery. READY!
is an ideal discussion forum for emergency planners and first responders
throughout the public sector to address the Department of Homeland Security's
National Response Plan (NRP) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
These recently-established initiatives prescribe emergency response protocols
for federal, state, and local governments in their efforts to manage natural
and manmade disasters. For more information about this exciting new event,

In addition to Mr. Hutchinson's keynote address, Dr. David Kay, the former
Special Advisor on Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction to the Director of
Central Intelligence, will deliver the opening keynote on Wednesday, July 28,
2004, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Other notable speakers in the two-day conference programs

Office for Domestic Preparedness, Department of Homeland Security; Bob
