ReflectShield(TM) allows design flexibility, reduces or eliminates tooling
costs, and speeds product development
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Automotive design engineers are
increasing the lifespan of heat-sensitive components in cars and trucks with
Federal-Mogul's ReflectShield(TM) heat shields.

ReflectShield heat shields, which are multi-layer, flexible insulators,
are designed to reduce the temperature of components and areas of the vehicle
that are vulnerable to nearby heat sources. These can include the engine
compartment, instrument panel, undercarpet or fuel tank. ReflectShield
adheres directly onto the component and deflects thermal energy away from the
component or area it is protecting. The shields have passed industry tests
for thermal effectiveness, thermal endurance, fluids resistance and
durability.
In addition, ReflectShield's die-cut design flexibility allows automotive
design engineers to utilize various attachment methods including adhesives,
snaps, clips, and studs. It also allows the creation of 3D shapes, ultimately
reducing lead times and eliminating tooling costs. Available in varying
profiles of polyester, ReflectShield reduces weight and improves the assembly
process with easy installation. Its narrow profile allows ReflectShield to
solve undercarpet clearance problems.
"Federal-Mogul's ReflectShield technology brings a level of innovation and
creative know-how to flexible heat shield design," said Phil Marks, automotive
applications engineer, Systems Protection, Federal-Mogul. "Instead of a one-
dimensional product, our internal engineering and manufacturing experts
conceived, designed, and produced three-dimensional shields. By combining
traditional shield materials with standard accessories like grommets, snaps,
and clips, we're providing this time- and cost-saving solution to our
customers."
