Applied MicroStructures Recognized by Semiconductor International Magazine for Semiconductor Manufacturing Excellence

Company's MVD(TM) Product Receives Leading Publication's Editors' Choice
                             Best Product Award

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In developing a product that
is truly making a difference in semiconductor manufacturing, Applied
MicroStructures Technology, Inc. (AMST) received the prestigious Editors'
Choice Best Product Award, presented annually by Semiconductor
International magazine, for its molecular vapor deposition (MVD) tool, a
groundbreaking technology that enables the controlled vapor deposition of
molecular-level films for semiconductor, microsystems and other
nanotechnology applications. In a ceremony on July 12 in San Francisco,
Semiconductor International will announce 20 winners whose products are
making a difference in semiconductor manufacturing.
With an installed base of more than three dozen tools in MEMs
manufacturing facilities, life science companies and universities on
multiple continents, AMST's MVD technology is having a key enabling impact
on the manufacture of advanced applications, such as sensors, actuators,
displays, disk drives and ink jets. Shrinking geometries in the
manufacturing process, coupled with the integration of new materials, are
conspiring to challenge conventional methods of depositing ultra-thin films
in the manufacturing process. The MVD system confronts these new challenges
with a unique approach to the management of surface properties that enables
the deposition of self- aligned, highly uniform and customizable thin films
across a broad spectrum of substrate types and sizes.
"We are very proud to be named as a member of this elite group of
technology innovators," said Jeff Chinn, chief executive officer of AMST.
"It's gratifying to have our product recognized by SI for its enabling
impact on next-generation MEMs device manufacturing."
"Advances in semiconductor technology are only possible because of the
kinds of products being honored in this year's Editors' Choice Best Product
Awards program," said Pete Singer, editor-in-chief of Semiconductor
International. "Chipmakers rely on these products to create electronics
that are smarter, smaller, faster, less expensive and more reliable. We
congratulate the people and the companies that have had the insight and
fortitude to bring these products to the market."
Semiconductor International, published by Reed Business Information and
a part of Reed Elsevier's global array of information products, is the
leading technical publication reaching and covering the global
semiconductor manufacturing industry. SI boasts the industry's most
experienced full-time technical editorial team, and has the largest
circulation to semiconductor manufacturers of any industry publication.
