Pharmaceutical companies in the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies to
abide by the revised Code
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., July 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Johnson &
Johnson today announced the commitment by its pharmaceutical companies to
adopt the revised Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America
(PhRMA) Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals. PhRMA
introduced its new Code earlier today.
Maintaining ethical relationships with health care professionals is an
essential aspect of providing physicians with the valuable information
regarding the appropriate use of medicines needed to help provide the best
possible care for patients. Acceptance of the revised PhRMA Code is
consistent with Johnson & Johnson's ongoing commitment to ensure the
integrity of our relationships between representatives and doctors, as well
as to protect medical judgment and treatment choices from inappropriate
influence.
The revised Code will supplement and enhance measures adopted by
Johnson & Johnson and its pharmaceutical operating companies in 2002 when
the first PhRMA Code was introduced. Operating companies within our
Pharmaceuticals Group will implement the new guidance by January 2009.
Johnson & Johnson and its involved operating companies base their
guidelines for responsible interactions with doctors on industry codes of
conduct as well as the legal, regulatory and professional requirements of
the countries where we conduct business.
