EVANSVILLE, Ind., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Shoe Carnival, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SCVL), a leading retailer of value-priced footwear and accessories,
today reported sales for the five-week period ended July 7, 2001 increased
13.5 percent to $39.7 million from sales of $35 million for the five-week
period ended July 1, 2000. Comparable store sales increased 2.7 percent in
June 2001.
Sales for the first five months of 2001 increased 18.4 percent to
$191.1 million from sales of $161.5 million for the first five months of 2000.
Comparable store sales increased by 2.6 percent for the 22 week period.
The Company also announced the opening of two new stores in June, one each
in College Station, TX and Corpus Christi, TX.
Shoe Carnival, Inc. expects to announce second quarter results on
August 16, 2001.
