Brooks Software Introduces Fault Detection(TM) Application for APC Platform

Another PCS-compliant application from Brooks Software for real-time Process
                           Monitoring and Analysis

    CHELMSFORD, Mass., July 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brooks Software, a
division of Brooks Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKS), and a leading provider of
real-time enterprise applications for discrete manufacturing environments,
today announced the availability of its Fault Detection(TM) application for
the Brooks Advanced Process Control(TM) (APC) Platform. The new Fault
Detection application gives manufacturers the resources they need to measure
and analyze the health of their processes and production equipment in real-
time. The Brooks Fault Detection application enables manufacturers to rapidly
identify process deviations to reduce scrap or out of tolerance product. In
addition, manufacturers can reduce mean times to diagnose equipment problems,
reduce alarms, and ultimately minimize rework and improve equipment
efficiency.
"The Fault Detection application extends the Brooks APC Platform by adding
additional functionality to its current applications set, including Run-to-Run
process control, and enabling cross-application interaction with other
performance enhancement/monitoring systems through its unified modeling
structure," said Tony Mullins, Director for EES Product Management for Brooks
Software. "The Fault Detection application, in conjunction with the Brooks
APC Platform, is the first environment where process control applications can
be deployed in a common PCS-compliant environment throughout the factory."
The Brooks Fault Detection application contains an extensive modeling
environment with pre-configured modules for multi-variate and uni-variate
analysis of equipment and processes. Configurable dashboards provide
visibility into the real-time health of the processes and the applications can
easily be tailored to meet a manufacturer's specific requirements by
supporting custom analyses/algorithms. To reduce the effort in maintaining
models, the system utilizes a common modeling technology that allows reuse
within process areas.
The Brooks Fault Detection application is built on the Brooks APC
Platform, the first commercially available framework to comply with the new
SEMI E133 process control system (PCS) standard. It provides a high level of
interoperability to ensure that manufacturers can deploy Brooks' best-of-breed
application modules, as well as third-party control applications, or customer
developed proprietary applications. The APC Platform provides a user
interface and execution engine that allows users to configure APC strategies
graphically without relying on costly software code or scripts.
Brooks APC Platform and its suite of applications allows manufacturers to
leverage real-time applications that sense changes and immediately respond in
the appropriate manner, which increases the efficiency and productivity of
manufacturing operations. The APC Platform gives users greater control over
changes in product specifications, equipment configuration and process
technologies, as well as fluctuations in demand.
The Fault Detection application and other APC solutions will be
demonstrated during SEMICON West, July 12-14, 2005 in the Brooks booth (#2526,
South Hall) at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
