New Handheld Application Provides Real-Time Equipment Maintenance Information
from Anywhere on the Factory Floor
CHELMSFORD, Mass., July 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brooks Software, a
division of Brooks Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKS) and a leading provider of
real-time applications for collaborative, complex manufacturing operations,
today announced XsiteMobile(TM), a new application that gives technicians
real-time access to all major equipment maintenance functions including
equipment lookup, view maintenance schedule, preventive maintenance (PM) and
repair work tracking. Running on a handheld device, XsiteMobile allows
technicians to update the central Xsite(TM) computerized maintenance
management system (CMMS) from anywhere on the shop floor. Brooks Software's
Xsite CMMS is an integrated software package that provides a computerized
means of controlling all aspects of equipment maintenance activity.
"XsiteMobile provides the right information, at the right place, at the
right time -- with its unique ability to update centralized equipment
maintenance records in real-time from any location within the factory floor,"
said Mike Smith, vice president of engineering and product development for
Brooks Software. "With XsiteMobile, technicians can take their equipment
maintenance systems with them right to the problem, improving the accuracy of
collected information, timeliness of equipment related information and
improved consistency and cycle-time of equipment maintenance execution
throughout the factory floor. As Xsite is a fully integrated with the shop
floor system, other systems such as an MES and production scheduling can
benefit from this timely equipment related information."
In order for technicians to capture the most accurate, real-time
information on the equipment's condition, technicians need to update the
equipment maintenance system as they are working on a PM or repair. In today's
fast-paced manufacturing production environment, technicians do not have the
bandwidth to walk back and forth across the factory floor to continuously
update the equipment maintenance system. Also, solutions like the print and
carry method or updating it from memory result in delayed information entries
and inaccuracies. XsiteMobile eliminates waste and allows technicians to carry
their equipment maintenance system wherever they go, ultimately helping
technicians with their lean manufacturing initiatives.
XsiteMobile is linked via wireless networking (WiFi) to central Xsite
servers for Real-time, 2-way updates without synchronization. It is compatible
with affordable Windows Mobile (Pocket PC) devices available from a variety of
manufacturers, some with special features such as bar code scanners and
integrated voice communication.
