TOLEDO, OH USA
TOLEDO, Ohio, July 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dana Corporation
announced today that it has begun supplying cylinder-head cover modules for
the 3.0L Duratec V-6 engine appearing on the Ford Freestyle, Ford Five
Hundred, and Mercury Montego vehicles.

The cylinder-head cover modules are produced using a thermoplastic
material, which is lighter and delivers significant cost savings when
compared to the magnesium cover that it replaces. Like magnesium,
thermoplastic is also recyclable and can be broken down and melted for
re-use after production.
The use of thermoplastic material offers the potential for further
development in terms of processing, design, and material properties. It
also provides design flexibility to integrate additional functions into the
cover in a single manufacturing step. Furthermore, by utilizing plastic,
the contributed weight savings to the overall mass of the vehicle improves
fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.
"Utilizing thermoplastic material in our cover modules offers our
customers a number of advantages, including enhanced fuel economy, cost
reduction, and recyclability," said Michael J. Burns, Dana chairman and
CEO. "As a leading supplier of sealing systems and other engine products to
Ford, we are committed to providing the latest in advanced technology and
product expertise."
The cylinder-head cover integrates several key components, including
the cover, perimeter gasket, spark plug gaskets, fastener assemblies,
baffle, and vent tube. The entire module is assembled and leak tested prior
to shipment to Ford.
Dana also supplies cylinder-head gaskets and front-cover gaskets for
the engine.
