Raytheon realigns businesses to focus on the customer,
                          improve speed and agility

    LEXINGTON, Mass., July 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has appointed William H. Swanson as president of
the company, effective immediately, reporting to Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer Daniel P. Burnham. In this new role, Swanson, 53, will lead
Raytheon's government and defense businesses that are part of Electronic
Systems (ES) and Command, Control, Communication and Information Systems
(C3I), with all reporting directly to him. Raytheon Technical Services
Company and the newly formed Raytheon Homeland Security business will also
report to Swanson.
"Bill is very well positioned to help me lead this company and focus us
even more intently on our customers and on our many opportunities for future
growth," said Burnham. "Bill has more than 30 years of varied and
exceptionally valuable experience in Raytheon, and his commitment to helping
our industry and government customers succeed is second to none."
As part of the realignment, Swanson will move to Raytheon's headquarters
in Lexington, Mass., and the company will streamline operations at both the ES
and C3I headquarters. The company will also look at restructuring some
existing business units. These moves will help the company operate with
greater agility and speed, increase productivity and reduce costs.
"Our new, leaner organization is a natural evolution of the progress we've
made as a company. It removes yet another layer of management and gives the
businesses even greater accountability to do what's needed to grow and
prosper," said Burnham. The company expects the new organizational structure
to be in place by the end of August.
Most recently, Swanson was president of ES and a Raytheon executive vice
president. He joined Raytheon in June 1972 and has held a wide range of
challenging positions, including manufacturing manager of the company's
equipment division, senior vice president and general manager of Missile
Systems, executive vice president and general manager of Raytheon Electronic
Systems, and chairman and chief executive officer of Raytheon Systems Company.
Raytheon Aircraft Company, led by Jim Schuster, Commercial Electronics,
led by Jack Wohler, and Raytheon Commercial Ventures Inc., led by John
Harbison, will continue to report to Burnham. Frank Marchilena, formerly
president of C3I and newly appointed to oversee the company's discontinued
operations, will also report directly Burnham. The company's staff executives
will also continue to report to Burnham.
With headquarters in Lexington, Mass., Raytheon Company is a global
technology leader in defense, government and commercial electronics, and
business and special mission aircraft.
