SAN FRANCISCO, CA USA
SAN FRANCISCO, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- BioSpace, the global Hubsite for
the life sciences, and Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MBC), a
not-for-profit organization that provides services and support for the
Massachusetts biotechnology industry, announce that the Genetown(TM) Hotbed
Campaign for 2003 is underway (http://www.biospace.com/genetown2003).
    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20010405/BIOSPACELOGO )
Genetown(TM), first launched in 1995, is a branding and awareness campaign
designed to promote bio-pharmaceutical companies located in the Bay State. In
an effort to attract additional capital, people and resources to the region,
Genetown is structured to include organizations of all sizes -- from emerging
startups to more established organizations and their vendors.
This year the fifth edition of the campaign will include the popular
Genetown Map that displays participating organizations' logos and their
buildings. The map is further enhanced through the integration of a variety of
dynamic and functional components on BioSpace's industry leading Website,
http://www.biospace.com, which attracts more than 1 million unique visitors and
generates more than 7 million page views every month.
"Genetown is one of our country's most recognized and well established
bio-pharmaceutical Hotbeds. Through four iterations of this campaign, we have
witnessed first hand the growth and maturation of the industry surrounding the
academic centers in Boston and Cambridge. For companies trying to make a name
for themselves in the crowded bio-pharmaceutical market, there's no better way
to stand out then to get involved with our regional campaigns," says Chris
Amato, CEO. "Large companies such as BIOGEN and Genzyme also benefit by
staying top-of-mind with key industry professionals, investors and the press.
We have also seen a number of law firms, banks, development companies and
other service groups gain exposure through our campaigns."
Massachusetts is home to nearly 300 biotechnology companies, employing
30,000 people directly. The State boasts 8% of the world's biopharmaceutical
pipeline, second in the world only to California.
"MBC member company participation in BioSpace's Genetown campaign has done
a considerable amount to raise the public profile of our world-class biotech
sector. Everything from the Genetown maps to the BioSpace Internet link has
helped educate people about biotech and conveyed to the world the enormous
scope and potential of the Massachusetts biotech cluster," said Janice
Bourque, President & CEO, Massachusetts Biotechnology Council.
All local life science companies and their vendors are invited to
participate in this exciting campaign. Please contact Susan Koller at
