Norwegians Select Skjold Class Ship for Littoral Warfare Mission; Selection Validates Raytheon-Led Team LCS's Concept for Revolutionary Surface Combatant

    TEWKSBURY, Mass., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Raytheon-led Team LCS
received another validation for its candidate Littoral Combat Ship (LCS)
design for the U.S. Navy when the Norwegian government passed a resolution for
procurement of five ships of the Skjold class.
    The Skjold class of ships in service since 1999 with the Royal Norwegian
Navy is a Fast Patrol Craft/Littoral Combat Ship designed to operate close to
shore with a heavy combat load. Team LCS's open architecture and
transformational design combined with a proven hull offers a low-risk,
modular, reliable and proven ship that can be ready to enter the U.S. Navy
Fleet within three years
