VerticalBuild's Permits.com is selected as one of Top 25 Hottest and Brightest
Companies in New York City
NEW YORK, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Alley based VerticalBuild,
parent company of Permits.com (http://www.permits.com), has been selected from
over 200 applicants as one of the twenty-five companies that represent the
"hottest and brightest" companies in New York City. Each of the "Top 25" will
participate in a two day exhibition known as the New York City Venture
Conference and Expo which is held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan
(see http://www.nycvc.com). The Conference is sponsored by Microsoft and Rare
Medium, among others.
Permits.com previously announced the rollout of the first complete form
management service for the construction industry. The Internet service
provided by permits.com enables users to obtain, file and manage building
permits and maintain code compliance on-line.
The concept for the company originated in Charles Rizzo & Associate
(CR&A), the leading building and zoning law consulting firm serving the needs
of corporate, professional and Real Estate clients for over three decades.
The national companies serviced by CR&A all increased their internal
efficiencies by outsourcing their form processing needs to CR&A's staff. The
development of the Internet allowed Permits.com to build a scaleable national
solution utilizing an ASP business model. Now its customers can benefit from
the business processes refined by CR&A over three decades and also the
technology developed internally at Permits.com. The result is a truly value-
added service and a suite of hosted applications for businesses dealing with
managing and submitting government forms.
Permits.com is the first web site to offer auto-intelligent software to
the construction industry in an ASP model. Contractors filing a permit
application receive the added value of proprietary software checks, ensuring
that the permit application is filed correctly. Saul Leopold, COO and
co-founder explained, "The permit application cannot be filed if required
fields are not filled in or digits are missing. This feature reduces permit
application rejection rates that currently run as high as 25%, benefiting both
the Contractor and Building Department."
The recent passing of legislation by Congress making an electronic
signature as legally binding as a traditional signature simply enhances this
online solution. The federal legislation is a boost for an e-commerce market
already expected to exceed $2.7 trillion by 2004. Stephen Rizzo, CEO and
co-founder of permits.com stated, "Our error-reduction solution takes the
building industry a step further than just permit submission and
revolutionizes the way the construction industry does business." Mr. Rizzo
continued, "Contractors who use our online permitting solution will save time
and money giving them an advantage over their competition."
Feedback concerning the on-line permitting solution has been positive by
construction organizations and individual contractors alike. Bernard Mendik,
a long-time New York real estate owner and manager, who is one of the
principal backers of the project, added, "Managing the entire permit process
at one convenient location will speed up the construction and renovation
process, reduce errors in filings and eliminate misplaced permits. It will
dramatically improve the efficiency of the real estate industry and
essentially every other industry conducting business with government agencies.
The potential for this type of application is limitless."
