WASHINGTON, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Executives across North America are
either "dumping" their stressful day jobs or adding a little fun-filled
diversity to their current positions by becoming what most would call
"Junkmen." A former U.S. military weapons specialist recently left his career
and an orthopedic surgeon and a professional baseball coach are enhancing
their profitable day jobs to "Haul Trash."
According to Brian Scudamore, president, 1-800-Got-Junk?, North America's
largest junk removal franchise, "Many of our franchise owners are
professionals who just want to add a little fun and diversity to their
regular routines. Here at 1-800-Got-Junk?, they're finding that they can have
financially rewarding careers that really are fun, and with out all the stress
of corporate life."
When Trent Lorfield, a former weapons specialist left the US military to
pursue his entrepreneurial dream as a franchise owner at 1-800-Got-Junk?, his
wife and friends thought he was crazy. "Just about everyone thought I was
nuts until they saw how much fun I'm having and how successful this business
has become," he said. "The money is great, but personally, I wanted the
independence and the challenge of being my own boss."
Dr. Rob Lander, an orthopedic surgeon in St. Louis, wasn't about to leave
medicine, but he needed to do something different. "I wanted and needed a
little diversity," he said. Lander, along with a partner, recently purchased
two franchises and Lander's son, a recent college graduate runs the operation
with his assistance. "We're hauling trash and we're having fun!" So much
fun, that they're exploring additional 1-800-Got-Junk? franchises in other
locations. "Medicine is my bread and butter, but 1-800-Got-Junk? is making
life a little more interesting."
When Trent Clark, a professional baseball coach in Phoenix, was seeking
new opportunities, he too chose 1-800-Got-Junk?. "I like the challenge of
building clients, meeting new people and managing and developing young
people," he said.
Over the past 12 years, 1-800-Got-Junk? has hauled over 20,000 loads.
Some of the more interesting items have included what appeared to be to be a
half lawn mower and half bicycle. Other items include over 19,000 cans of
spoiled sardines and thousands of homemade canned goods from a lady's
basement.
1-800-Got-Junk? is franchised in 26 locations throughout North America.
