PENNDOT's Second Lap as a Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Partner

PITTSBURGH, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- PENNDOT announces its second year in
partnership with the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP). PENNDOT donated
actual concrete "Jersey" barriers, used on sections of highway in the
Pittsburgh region, to line the PVGP racecourse. The barriers, stored at the
PENNDOT supply yard on Neville Island, will guide drivers through the winding
course and provide protection for spectators.
"We are happy to provide the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix with the use of
the surplus barrier and to help with their efforts to raise money for the
Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School," said Ray Hack,
PENNDOT District 11 Executive.
Race fans are invited to the PENNDOT tent for a free bottle of PENNDOT
H2O, the official beverage of PENNDOT and the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel
project. Traffic and auto safety information and updates on the final phase
of the rehabilitation project will also be on display.
"We're excited to be a part of the racing action again this year," said
Dick Skrinjar, PENNDOT Public Information Officer. "PENNDOT looks forward to
greeting the thousands of spectators at the event and to delivering the good
news - the Fort Pitt Bridge and Tunnel will open in August."
The PVGP is the only vintage car race in the nation that is held
exclusively on city streets, a twisting 2.33-mile course through Schenley
Park. The PENNDOT tent is located on the Schenley Park Golf Course.
The reconstruction of the northbound lanes of I-279 will conclude in
August with completion of the exit ramp leading to I-376 east expected in
October. The decade long project is ahead of schedule and set for early
completion to benefit the thousands of motorists who travel the route daily.
