Evergreen to Purchase Pratt & Whitney JT9D Durability Kits

    LONDON, FARNBOROUGH AIRSHOW, July 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Evergreen International Aviation, Inc., has signed an agreement to purchase
Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7J durability kits for the airline's fleet of
JT9D-powered Boeing 747 aircraft. Pratt & Whitney is a unit of United
Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The agreement is for eight kits and is valued at $9 million with an
option to purchase an additional 12 kits worth $16 million. If all firm and
optional kits are purchased, the total value of this award will exceed $26
million. Deliveries will begin in July 2006.
"We are thrilled to provide Evergreen Airlines with a durability kit
that helps optimize the performance of their JT9D engines," said Steve
Heath, president of Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines. "Our goal is to
provide customers with the products, support and service they need to keep
their fleets flying. Once this kit is installed, I'm confident that
Evergreen Airlines will see a noticeable difference."

our fixed and rotor wing aircraft," said Michael Hines, senior vice
president, Evergreen. "Investing in the JT9D secures our commitment to
quality, safety and Pratt & Whitney."

on-wing time. It consists of first- and second-stage turbine blades and
vanes, inner and outer combustion chambers, and a full set of HPC (high
pressure compressor) blades. It is expected to reduce the number of
unplanned engine removals, increase EGT (exhaust gas temperature) margin
and improve TSFC (thrust-specific fuel consumption).
