Piranha's Impact Solutions Subsidiary Receives Order From Canadian-Based
Operation With 160 Facilities in 15 Countries and More Than $4.9 Billion In
Annual Sales
MONTREAL, July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Piranha, Inc.,
(OTC Bulletin Board: BYTE), an innovator in data compression technology, today
announced it has received an order for Piranha Byte's lossless compression
software solution from the world's largest printer, Quebecor World, Inc.
A 1999 merger of Quebecor Printing and U.S.-based World Color created the
leading printing and graphics services company. Quebecor World prints books,
catalogs, directories, magazines and newspaper inserts for such clients as
Microsoft, Time Warner and Office Depot. The company has more than 160
facilities in 15 countries, including the United States, Canada, France, the
United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Chile, Argentina,
Peru, Colombia, Mexico and India.
Quebecor World began in 1950 with the purchase of a neighborhood newspaper
by Pierre Peladeau, whose family still controls the company. Quebecor bought
its first printing plant in 1953. In 1999, the company had a turnover in
excess of $4.95 billion and a profit of more than $80 million. Quebecor World
has more than 40,000 employees.
Piranha Byte's compression technology enables Quebecor World to reduce
file transmission costs for its customers and reduce the cost of storing
production files. Piranha Byte also provides point-to-multipoint
communications, compressing files at least eight times smaller than their
original size.
"Piranha Byte is a very useful product for us in special workflow
environments," says Pierre Bedard, director Pre-Impressions, for Quebecor
World. It will save money for us with storage space and will also save us
transmission costs."
Bedard plans to work with several key accounts to improve speed of
production and reduce costs as he helps Quebecor World transition to a
completely digital workflow.
"Quebecor World's choice of Piranha Byte to improve production for key
clients is another indicator of the value of this software solution for
companies handling huge quantities of valuable data," said Larry Greybill,
president of Impact Solutions, Inc. "It is almost impossible to estimate the
amount of data that a worldwide operation of this size must handle in a secure
and stable environment, and we are delighted to work with the world's largest
printer to ensure fast, efficient and less expensive digital workflows."
Quebecor World purchased Piranha Byte from Impact Solutions, Piranha
Inc.'s sales and marketing subsidiary that is focused on professional imaging.
Impact Solutions, Inc. recently announced sales of Piranha Byte to
McCann-Erickson's McCann Relationship Marketing, DDB Worldwide and Messner
Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/EURO RSCG.
