Raytheon Celebrates Christening of LPD-17, the Navy's Next-Generation Amphibious Transport Dock Ship

    TEWKSBURY, Mass., July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company's Integrated
Defense Systems, the ship electronic systems integrator for LPD-17, will
celebrate the christening of the USS San Antonio tomorrow (July 19) at
Northrop Grumman Ship Systems' site in Avondale, La.  U.S. Senator Kay Bailey
Hutchison of Texas is the sponsor of LPD-17, the first ship in the San Antonio
class of the U.S. Navy's amphibious ships.

    LPD-17 is an expeditionary warfare support platform that serves as an
operations base for elements of the Marine expeditionary forces. Under
contract to Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Raytheon developed the Shipboard
Wide Area Network (SWAN), the integrated product data environment, and all
related software to provide total ship information management. Raytheon also
provided the integrated ship electronics architecture and life cycle
engineering support.
