LAS VEGAS, July 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Southwest Gas Corporation
(NYSE: SWX) today announced the appointment of Jeffrey W. Shaw to the position
of President. Michael O. Maffie will continue as Chief Executive Officer
(CEO).

According to Maffie, the separation of the President and CEO positions
continues a process begun by the company several years ago to broaden and
deepen the experience of senior management. It also provides for an orderly
transition in the succession-planning process.
A 15-year employee of Southwest Gas, Shaw most recently served as Senior
Vice President/Gas Resources and Pricing. He previously served as Senior Vice
President/Finance and Treasurer as well as the Chief Accounting Officer. He
joined Southwest Gas in 1988 as Director/Internal Audit.
Shaw graduated from the University of Utah in 1983 with a degree in
Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Nevada Society of CPA's, and
the Leadership Las Vegas Alumni Association. Shaw also serves on the board
for the YMCA of Southern Nevada, and is active with the Boy Scouts of America.
Southwest Gas Corporation provides service to nearly 1.5 million customers
in Arizona, Nevada, and California. Its service territory is centered in the
fastest-growing region of the country.
