EGL Makes Personal Commitment to a Cleaner Environment
HOUSTON, July 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EGL Eagle Global Logistics
(Nasdaq: EAGL), a leading provider of personalized, global transportation
and logistic solutions, is now a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's
(EPA) SmartWay Transport Partner. Being a Partner is a distinguished
recognition among commercial, industrial, and public sector organizations
that commit to reduce gas emissions and air pollution and improve the
overall fuel efficiency of ground freight transportation.
"As a trusted partner with the EPA, EGL is committed to enhancing the
understanding of vendors, contractors, customers and the general public on
EPA SmartWay initiatives to reduce greenhouse gases in our environment,"
said Ashley Herren, EGL's Corporate Safety Manager. "EGL and our employees
are personally committed to working towards a cleaner environment."
The EPA SmartWay program encourages its partners to set high goals and
company standards, setting the pace in their respective industries to
improve fuel efficiency, reduce energy consumption and demonstrate
corporate citizenship. EGL's immediate goals include support and internal
promotion of a "reduced idle" policy, which encourages drivers to turn off
engines while loading or unloading. Additional goals include providing
literature supplied by the EPA to each EGL contractor; promoting SmartWay
goals at EGL's driver safety meetings; and making additional literature
available at EGL's locations throughout the U.S.
As its long-term goal, the company intends to educate its
owner/operators to route freight through other EPA SmartWay Partner
logistics carriers whenever possible. To calculate the success of the
program, EGL plans to monitor carrier volume reports and provide metrics to
develop action plans for improvement.
