The Allied Defense Group Announces New Ammunition Order for More Than $15 Million

VIENNA, Va., July 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Allied Defense Group,
Inc. (Amex: ADG) announces its Belgian defense unit, MECAR S.A., has received
an ammunition order for more than $15 million from a traditional customer in
the Middle East. These orders call for MECAR to provide 120mm mortar and
training ammunition for this established client. As of June 30, 2005, the
Allied Defense Group's consolidated backlog was $96.6 million (including an
unfunded portion of approximately $4.3 million from a federal contract).
The 120mm mortar system is receiving particular attention as militaries
throughout the world place increased emphasis on strategic mobility and
lethality. It is relatively light and quite powerful when compared to field
artillery. The MECAR suite of U.S. Army safety-certified 120mm mortar
ammunition has been designed to operate in a wide variety of mortar systems,
from the simple towed mortar to the latest generation of breech loaded,
turreted mortars such as the Armored Mortar System (AMS) and the Advanced
Mortar System (AMOS). The current maximum range of this ammunition is more
than 7 kilometers when fired from a light towed mortar and in excess of 9
kilometers when fired from the AMS and AMOS. MECAR engineers project an
eventual maximum range greater than 12 kilometers, without rocket assistance,
from systems such as the AMS and AMOS. This ammunition is available with a
certified fuze for direct fire missions such as required in Military
Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT).
MECAR's training ammunition provides a safer, more cost effective tool
while reducing environmental impacts. MECAR provides training variants for
all its ammunition.
Major General (Ret) John J. Marcello, The Allied Defense Group's Chief
Executive Officer and President, said, "We are proud to receive this order
from a client with whom MECAR has established a stellar record of sustained
excellence and reliability. This announcement cumulates a total of $62
million in MECAR orders in the last several weeks. Militaries throughout the
world are becoming more mobile and they are demanding that fire support
systems evolve to support them. MECAR's history of custom innovation,
creativity and quick response time has put us in a preferred supplier
position."
