Ryder Appoints Charles Patton Vice President, Compensation and Benefits

    MIAMI, July 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a
global leader in transportation and supply chain management solutions, today
announced the appointment of Charles R. Patton, Vice President, Compensation
and Benefits.  In this role, Mr. Patton will be responsible for corporate
compensation planning and health and welfare benefits program design for
Ryder's 26,000 employees worldwide.  Mr. Patton will report to Jennifer
Thomas, Chief Human Resources Officer.

prior success in effectively managing worldwide compensation budgets and
benefit programs will be instrumental in furthering Ryder's future growth
strategies."
    Mr. Patton joins Ryder from Office Depot, where he most recently served as
Vice President, Human Resources Planning, Budgeting and Analysis.  In that
role, he was responsible for developing and providing employee performance
analysis information, which enabled management to quantify investments in
personnel and HR.  Earlier, he served as Office Depot's Vice President,
Compensation, Benefits & Human Resources Information System (HRIS), overseeing
a $1.2 billion compensation planning and program design worldwide, including
high-level compliance activities for Sarbanes-Oxley, New York Stock Exchange,
Securities and Exchange Commission and the European Union for equity
compensation, planning and oversight of international compensation and
benefits budgets.
    Throughout his career, Mr. Patton has held various leadership positions in
Human Resources, Compensation and HRIS for PolyOne Corporation, GenCorp,
Watson-Wyatt and Bausch & Lomb.
    Mr. Patton earned a master of arts degree in Personnel Administration and
a bachelor of science degree in Multidisciplinary Social Science from Michigan
State University.
