- CAE establishes alliances with existing flight training organizations
- Program expands CAE's pilot provisioning program
FARNBOROUGH, UK, July 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (NYSE: CGT; TSX:
CAE) - Today at the Farnborough Air Show, CAE introduced the CAE Global
Academy, a new training alliance intended to address the global shortage of
pilots. CAE Global Academy will be a network of flight training
organizations offering pilot candidates the required training for a
commercial pilot's license and a clear path, via the global CAE training
network, for continuing on to a specific type-rating and ultimate career as
an airline pilot.
"There is currently a global shortage of airline pilots and this is
only expected to become more acute over the next two decades," said Jeff
Roberts, CAE's Group President, Civil Training & Services and Innovation.
"With the global jet fleet expected to almost double in the next 20 years,
industry sources estimate demand for new pilots at 18,000 annually. CAE is
addressing this need through its pilot provisioning services, whereby we
recruit, qualify, and train pilot candidates for eventual hire by airlines.
CAE Global Academy expands our total training service portfolio, leverages
our existing global training network, and will provide us with a new source
of candidates for our airline customers."
CAE also announced it has signed alliance agreements with an initial
three flight training organizations -- International Airline Training
Academy (IATA), based in Tucson, Arizona; HM Aerospace (HMA), based in
Langkawi, Malaysia; and Academia Aeronautica de Evora (AAE), based in
Evora, Portugal. CAE is in discussions with other flight training
organizations in various locations around the world, particularly in areas
experiencing a critical pilot shortage. CAE expects to grow the CAE Global
Academy alliance over the next two years.
The combination of CAE's existing global training network and the new
alliance partners, operating under the CAE Global Academy brand, will
provide students a more efficient and high quality pilot training process
designed to improve their opportunities for a career as an airline pilot.
Flight training organizations joining the CAE Global Academy alliance
will continue to offer traditional ab initio training, while CAE will
provide type- rating qualification through its global training network. The
CAE Global Academy will become a valuable source of pilot candidates for
airlines while enabling flight training organizations to leverage CAE's
reputation as a world-class training provider with broad and extensive
airline relationships. In the future, CAE will utilize the CAE Global
Academy to introduce a standardized Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL)
curriculum and courseware along with supporting flight training devices.
Currently, the alliance partners - IATA, HMA, and AAE - have capacity
to graduate and license more than 600 pilots annually. These pilots will
graduate from the flight training organization with a commercial pilot's
license, then proceed to type-rating qualification at one of CAE's training
centres. Over the next two years, other flight training organizations will
be added to the CAE Global Academy with the goal of producing more than
2,000 type-rated pilots annually.
"Through CAE Global Academy and our global network of training centres,
we'll be able to produce high-quality trained airline first officers more
quickly and more efficiently," said Mr. Roberts. "Our aim is to create a
world-class airline pilot training program that candidates as well as
airlines recognize as the best and most focused training program
available."
