Deadline to Clean & Gut Houses is Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, on the First
Anniversary of the Floods
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Rebecca Thomley will
return on a 5th journey to New Orleans Ninth Ward with group of 50
Minnesota volunteers from "A River of Hope" to clear the ravaged houses
from Saturday, August 5, through Tuesday, August 8, 2006. The homes must be
cleaned out by August 29, 2006, the one-year anniversary deadline from the
storm.
Last October, Dr. Thomley promised Pastor Warren Jones of the Salem
Baptist Church that she would return with help. She had been sent to New
Orleans by the Red Cross to counsel families in the area affected by the
storms, and she was appalled by the lack of support in clearing and
rebuilding the homes.
Dr. Thomley spearheaded "A River of Hope" with fellow employees of
Orion Associates in Golden Valley, Minn., where she is CEO. Over the
Thanksgiving weekend in 2005, thirty-three women and two men traveled to
New Orleans to help the clear soggy waste and rotting refuse from the homes
of the Ninth Ward and St. Bernard's Parish. The group has gone back four
times with volunteers and truckloads of materials and supplies.
Zenith Services is seeking volunteers, supplies and additional
contributions of finances to support its efforts. For further information
go to http://www.zenithsvs.com or call Jenny Schraut at 612-432-5915.
Supplies needed are safety goggles, medical masks, N 95 respirators,
leather work gloves, heavy rubber gloves, empty gas cans, blankets, tarps,
air mattresses, compressors, mattresses and box springs (new), personal
hygiene products, toilet tissue, paper towels, hand sanitizer, bleach,
trash bags 3 ML, brooms, shop vacuums, dollies, wheel barrows, sheetrock,
joint compound, nails, hammers, tool sets, box cutters, crowbars, steel
wool, power washers and air.
Cash donations to purchase supplies for rebuilding homes may be made
with checks payable to the Zenith Services, Inc. Disaster Relief Fund, and
mailed to 9400 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, Minnesota 55427. All
donors will receive a charitable tax deduction receipt in the mail.
