Educators from 10 states to converge on West Palm Beach to get ahead in the
hot career field of culinary arts
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Culinary
Institute (FCI), South Florida's oldest post-secondary culinary
institution, is playing host to the nation's culinary educators for the
third year in a row, with a Summer Skills Workshop event that has helped
establish South Florida as a national center for culinary career education.
The event, undertaken in partnership with a national organization, the
Center for the Advancement of Foodservice Education (C.A.F.E.), attracts
food service and culinary educators from around the world each summer to
learn essential skills in one of the nation's fastest-growing career
fields.
Secondary and post-secondary culinary educators are expected to attend
the workshop from 10 states. The workshop opens with a reception on
Thursday, July 20 and concludes with a graduation luncheon on Sunday, July
23. This year's workshop features the culinary art of "garde manger" which
- appropriately for summer - refers to the preparing and presenting of cold
foods.
"We are thrilled to be C.A.F.E.'s partner in the Summer Skills Workshop
again this year," said Chef David Pantone, dean of culinary education at
Florida Culinary Institute. "In this fast-growing career field, it is
incredibly important for educators to advance their technique through
hands-on workshops like these designed to increase culinary and teaching
skills. FCI has been leading the way in establishing South Florida as a key
education center for national educators in culinary and foodservice
education."
The workshop's focus will include salads, hors d'oeuvres and appetizers
with an Indian influence. Garde Manger also encompasses decorative arts
such as table arrangements and edible centerpieces. Garde Manger is
considered among the most skilled and creative specialties in the culinary
field, and one in which today's top culinary educators must be well-versed.
FCI is rapidly emerging as a leader in educating those who are teaching
these essential skills to the next generation of chefs and food service
workers. For a full agenda, visit http://www.cafemeetingplace.com
FCI has the support of parent company Lincoln Educational Services
Corporation, which makes it a priority to anticipate workplace skill needs
and implement custom-designed classes and programs to meet current and
future workforce demands.
